Baseball plays at Penn State Tuesday night

Bearcats and Big Ten member Nittany Lions meet at 5 p.m. in University Park, Pa.

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (8-7) heads to University Park, Pa. for a Tuesday night test at Big Ten member Penn State (11-5). First pitch is set for 5 p.m. at Medlar Field at Lubrano Park. 

The Bearcats are coming off a three-game weekend sweep of Lafayette and have won four straight and eight of their last 11. The team is hitting .299 and has a 5.65 pitching ERA. 

Junior outfielder Tommy Reifler is coming off an exceptional weekend where he went 10-for-14 (.714). He ranks 10th in the country with a .462 season batting average. Senior outfielder Cavan Tully went 6-for-10 against Lafayette to push his season mark to .429. 

Freshman Dan McAliney will make his first collegiate start. 

Penn State is coming off a two-game weekend sweep of Georgetown and has won four of its last five. Three of the team's five defeats have come against nationally-ranked teams. The Nittany Lions opened their season with a 9-5 win over No. 22 Miami. The team is hitting .292 and has a 4.23 pitching ERA. Freshman Ben DeMell will make his first collegiate start.

The Nittany Lions lead the all-time series 3-1. The teams haven't played since 2019 - a 5-3 Penn State home win. BU's victory was a 6-3 win in 2017 during a record-setting 30-13 Bearcats regular season.
