Bearcat women place program-best 10th at meet, men are 26th

BOSTON, N.Y. – Graduate student Aziza Chigatayeva won the women's 3,000 race, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the ECAC/IC4A Indoor Track & Field Championships. The three-day meet, which concluded on Sunday, was held at the Boston University Track & Tennis Center.

Chigatayeva becomes the first Binghamton female athlete to win an ECAC Division championship since Keishorea Armstrong won the 2018 outdoor long jump title. Her first-place time of 9:18.08 is the second fastest in Binghamton program history and was five seconds ahead of second-place Miranda Stanhope of James Madison (9:23.40). There were 28 finishers in the event.

While Chigatayeva made the most of her final trip to the ECAC Indoor Championships, freshman Alyssa Armitage was doing the same in her first appearance. Two weeks after winning the America East pole vault title, she tied for second at the ECAC meet with a height of 12-0.

Other top-8 finishers on the women's side included freshman Sydney Leitner, who was fifth in the 5,000 (17:05.60), sophomore Lucciana Robertson, who was sixth in the high jump (5-5), and junior Jenna Chan, who was seventh in the 60 hurdles (8.68). Robertson and Chan won the America East titles in their events two weeks ago. Leitner, meanwhile, turned in the fourth-fastest 5,000 time in Binghamton program history at the ECAC meet.

On the men's side in the IC4A meet, junior Josh Stone was fifth overall in the 5,000, clocking a time of 14:10.30. That represents the second-fastest performance in Binghamton program history. Stone was the runner up at the America East Championships two weeks ago.

Also on the men's side, senior Jake Restivo was fifth in the long jump (23-0) and fellow senior Brandon Love was sixth in the pole vault (15-7). Love won his event at the preceding conference meet while Restivo was the runner up in his event.

There were 41 scoring teams in the women's ECAC competition and 42 scoring teams in the men's IC4A event.

Binghamton now turns its attention to the upcoming outdoor season, which begins March 24-27 at the N.C. State/Raleigh Relays.
