VESTAL, N.Y. – A year after running in the Paris Olympics, 2021 Binghamton alum and five-time track and cross country All-American Emily Mackay returns to the world stage.

Representing the United States, Mackey is set to compete in the women's 1,500 at the World Track & Field Championships in Tokyo Japan. The first round of the women's 1,500 takes place on Saturday (Sept. 13) at 6:50 a.m. EST while the finals are set for next Tuesday (Sept. 16) at 9:05 a.m. (EST). Both races will be aired on NBC/Peacock.

Mackay punched her ticket to the World Track & Field Championships by earning the bronze medal at the United States Track & Field Association (USTFA) Championships this past Aug. 2. She was third overall in the finals with a time of 4:04.38, trailing only Nikki Hiltz (4:03.15) and Sinclaire Johnson (4:03.77). The top three finishers in each individual event at the USATF meet advanced to Tokyo.

Two weeks later (Aug. 16), Mackey won the gold medal in the women's 1,500 at the North American Central American and Caribbean (NACAC) Meet.

This marks the first time in her career that Mackay has advanced to the World Outdoor Championships. She took part in the 2024 World Indoor Meet in Glasgow, Scotland and earned the bronze medal in the women's 1,500.

Mackay advanced to the semifinals of the women's 1,500 at the Paris Olympics.

A five-time United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) All-American during her years at Binghamton, Mackay capped her career with a sixth-place finish in the women's 1,500 at the 2022 NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
