VESTAL, N.Y. - Winners of five in a row and 13 of their last 16, Binghamton baseball (17-10) hosts Cornell (4-18) in a non-conference game Tuesday. The teams play the first of three games against one another at 6:30 p.m. at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.Â
Over the weekend, BU swept a three-game set from former America East opponent Hartford. BU won 10-3, 2-1 and 11-0 and the wins extended the team's win streak to five. Saturday's opener was noteworthy in that it marked the return of all-conference catcher
Evin Sullivan, who missed the first seven weeks of the season with an injury. Sullivan celebrated his return to health with an RBI single in his first at-bat of 2023. In Game 2, second baseman
Nick Roselli went 3-for-3 with four RBI, raising his season average to .330 and bumping his team-high RBI count to 27 in 27 games. Outfielder
Tommy Reifler continues to lead the America East in hitting (.389) and first baseman
Kevin Gsell is fourth (.375).
Freshman right-hander
Dan McAliney will make his third collegiate start against the Big Red. In his last outing, McAliney worked 2.0 scoreless innings against St. Bonaventure last Tuesday. Â
The Big Red are coming off a tough weekend where they dropped three games to Brown. Cornell is 3-6 in the Ivy League after winning two of three against Yale and dropping two of three to Columbia. The team is 4-6 in its last 10 games, including a 13-3 home win over Division III Ithaca last Tuesday.Â
Cornell is hitting .238 and has a 7.15 pitching ERA.
Cornell leads the all-time series 24-18-1. The Big Red won two of the three head-to-head games last spring and have won seven of the last 11 (7-3-1).Â
