Track & Field Competes at Virginia and Bucknell

Chigatayeva wins 3,000 SC at Virginia, Thomas wins Discus at Bucknell

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va./ LEWISBURG, Pa. – Graduate student Aziza Chigatayeva and senior Spencer Thomas each won individual events, highlighting Binghamton's performance at a pair of track & field meets this weekend. Chigatayeva was first in the women's 3,000 Steeplechase (SC) at the Virginia Challenge while Thomas captured the men's discus at the Bucknell Team Challenge.

There was no team scoring at the Virginia Challenge. At Bucknell, the Bearcat men's team placed third out of nine teams while the women were sixth out of nine squads.

Chigatayeva's winning time in the 3,000 SC was 10:07.78. She recorded an 11-second win over runner-up Kathryn Nohilly of Florida (10:18.05).
Thomas' first-place throw was 155-1. He won by three feet over runner-up Stephen Campana of Army (152-8).

Second-place men's finishes for the Bearcats at Bucknell were turned in by sophomore Jaston Ormsby in the men's hammer (180-7), senior Nick Malfitano in the men's 110 hurdles (15.03) and junior Marcus Johnson in the 400 hurdles (55.65)

Freshman Alyssa Armitage, meanwhile, was second in the women's pole vault (11-11 ¾) and sophomore Zoe Rose was second in the women's 1,500 (4:41.15).
Up next for Binghamton is Penn Relays, this coming Thursday-Saturday.
