FAIRFAX, Va. – Senior
Matthew Cavaliere won the men's 1,500 championship, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the ECAC/IC4A Outdoor Meet, which was held this weekend at George Mason University. In the final team standings, the Bearcat men were a program-best ninth out of 38 scoring teams while the women's squad was 22
nd out of 37 scoring teams.
Cavaliere, who won the America East Outdoor Championship in the same event last week, clocked a first-place time of 3:43.71 at the ECAC/IC4A meet. He won by .29 seconds over runner-up Ryan Fowkes of George Washington.
Elsewhere on the men's side for Binghamton, sophomore
Joey Cardascia was third in the 400 with a personal-best time of 47.07, senior
Marty Dolan was fourth in the 3,000 Steeplechase (9:02.73) and junior
Brandon Love was eighth in the pole vault (16-0).
On the women's side, graduate student
Stephanie Cassens was the Bearcats' top finisher, placing third with a personal-best time of 2:08.87. Sophomore
Lucciana Robertson tied for fourth in the high jump (5-4 ¼) and freshman
Alyssa Armitage was sixth in the pole vault (12-4 ¾).
Up next is the NCAA East Regional Meet, which will be held May 24-27 at North Florida. The final list of entrees will be released on Monday evening.
NOTES: Binghamton's previous-best finish at the men's IC4A outdoor meet was 16
th in 2016 ... Cavaliere is the first Bearcat to win a men's IC4A title since current senior
Jake Restivo won the 2021 outdoor long jump crown.
