Allen selected as Coach of the Year, Manning earns Goalkeeper of the Year, nine student-athletes honored

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's lacrosse earned a record number of America East honors and awards today for their most successful regular season in program history. Binghamton earned two major awards as Stephanie Allen was selected as Coach of the Year and senior Emily Manning earned Goalkeeper of the year honors. Binghamton had three players selected to the America East First Team. Prior to this season, the most First Team selections in a single-season for Binghamton was one. The Bearcats tied a program record (2018) by having five players named to the Second Team. Binghamton also produced one All-Rookie selection. The nine selections to the America East All-Conference teams are the most in any season in the program's history, which began in 2002.

"It's very exciting to see our players honored in this way with their All-Conference selections," head coach Stephanie Allen said. "They have put in a ton of hard work and heart this year and for their conference opponents and coaching staffs to recognize that is a tremendous accomplishment. We are very proud of their success thus far and hope that there is more to come with this season."

Coach of The Year

Allen earned the award for the first time in her career. She becomes the first Binghamton Women's Lacrosse head coach to win the award. In her 11th season at the helm, Allen led Binghamton to it's first 10 win season,  a program best 5-1 record in the America East, the longest win streak (seven) in program history, and the team rewrote the program record book, setting multiple team and individual records during the regular season. She picked up her 60th career victory in the regular season finale against UMass-Lowell on April 22. Binghamton earned their highest seed in the America East tournament (No. 2 seed). The Bearcats will look to win a postseason game for the first time in team history in the AE semifinals against No. 3 Vermont on Friday at 4 p.m. in Albany.

First Team

Senior goalie and captain Emily Manning was named Goalkeeper of the Year for her outstanding play throughout the regular season. Manning is the first goalie to earn the award in program history. Manning posted a 10-5 record, including a 5-1 record against America East opponents. She ranks second in the America East in minutes played (854:52) and goals against average (10.81). Manning made clutch saves throughout the season and is currently tied for third in the America East in with 114 saves. She posted a save percentage of .425 and made 7.6 saves per game in the regular season, which ranks fourth in the America East. Manning made 10 or more saves four times this season. She played a key role in milestone victories against non-conference opponents Pittsburgh and Cornell. The win against Pittsburgh was Binghamton's first win against an ACC opponent in program history, and the victory against Cornell was the first win against an Ivy League Opponent in team history. Manning earned America East Defensive Player of the Week honors twice during the 2023 regular season for her tremendous performances against Pittsburgh and Bryant (10 saves in each game).

"I'm so excited and honored to receive Goalkeeper of the Year," Manning said. "I couldn't have done it without my amazing teammates and coaches! I can't wait to finish strong this season strong with them and compete to win a championship."

After earning All-Rookie Honors a season ago, sophomore midfielder Abigail Carroll was selected to the First Team for her offensive production. Carroll leads Binghamton with 36 goals and ranks in the top-10 in the America East in goals, goals per game (2.57), shots (78), shots per game (5.57), and draw controls per game (3.36). Carroll leads the America East with 16 free position goals and 1.23 free position goals per game. Carroll currently ranks sixth in the nation in free position goals per game and she is eighth in the nation in free position goals. Carroll needs two free position goals to set a new Binghamton single-season record for free position goals, which is held by Callon Williams (2016). Carroll scored a career-high five goals in the wins against Cornell and UMBC this season. Carroll earned America East Player of the Week for her performances in those games. She has tallied at least four points in eight games this season.

Sophomore defensive midfielder Angelina Suau earned First Team honors during her outstanding breakthrough season. She emerged as one of the premier defenders in the America East after playing in just five games during her freshman season. In the 2023 regular season, Suau had a team-high 35 caused turnovers and 2.73 caused turnovers per game. She currently ranks third in the program's single-season history for caused turnovers and needs just three more to move into second place. Suau is currently 12th in the nation for caused turnovers per game and she is t-15th in caused turnovers. She had a career-high six caused turnovers and added four ground balls in the regular season victory against Vermont, earning America East Defensive Player of the Week honors.
