Track & Field shines at Columbia Challenge held at Armory

Armitage ties pole vault school record after clearing 12-feet-9 1/2

NEW YORK, N.Y. – Binghamton track & field teams enjoyed several standout performances at the Dr. Sander Invitational Columbia Challenge, held Friday and Saturday at the Nike Track & Field Center at The Armory. The two-day event at the historic Armory featured a field of 26 teams, including some of the top programs in the Northeast.

On Friday, sophomore Alyssa Armitage equaled the school pole vault record with a mark of 12-feet-9 1/2. She tied the record held by Christy DiMichele (2016) and placed third in the event.

On the men's side, senior Marcus Johnson was runnerup in the triple jump with a distance of 48-10 ¼ and senior pole vaulter Brandon Love placed third with a clearance of 16-feet-3/4. 

On Saturday, redshirt freshman Brian Luciano took third in the weight throw (64-feet-11 ½), senior Josh Stone set a PR in placing seventh in the 3,000 (8:12.87) and junior Oliver Madariaga had two strong runs, placing fourth in the 200 (22.04) and sixth in the 400 (49.29).

For the women, junior Hillary Abankwa finished fifth in the 400 (56.32) and sophomore Angie Mesa-Espinosa took sixth in the 60 meters (7.83).

The Bearcats are back in action next Saturday at the Penn State Sykes & Sabock Challenge.
