Bearcats turn in four first-place performances and a pair of school records

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. - Senior Jenna Chan, redshirt freshman Brian Luciano and graduate student Mark Scanlon each won their individual events and broke the school records in the process, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the Penn State/Sykes & Sabock Indoor Track & Field Challenge on Saturday at the Ashenfelter Indoor Track Complex. Overall, the Bearcats won four individual events and there was no team scoring at the meet.

Luciano won the weight throw with a distance of 66-1 ¾. In addition to nailing down his third victory of the season, it also marks the third time this year that he has broken his own school record. Luciano's most recent record was a distance of 65-5 at the Bucknell/Gulden Invitational two weeks ago.

Chan, meanwhile, clocked a first-place time of 8.46 in the 60 hurdles. That eclipse her 2023 record of 8.49.

Scanlon, meanwhile, recorded a winning time of 1:20.02 in the 600. The previous record of 1:20.56 was set by Chris Fernandez back in 2014.

The Bearcats other individual winner was junior Joey Cardascia in the men's 500 (1:03.55).

Runner-up finishes were turned in by freshman Liam Cody in the men's 600 (1:23.64) and junior Lucciana Robertson in the women's high jump (5-7). Cody set the Binghamton freshman record in that event, which was previously established by Mark Sitler in 1980.

Next weekend, Binghamton will be sending athletes to three different meets - the Boston/Valentines Invitational (Friday-Saturday), the RIT Friday Invitational on Friday and the Ocean Breeze/Big Apple Invitational on Saturday.
