Bearcats and Golden Griffins square off at 3 p.m. at Stadium

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball will look to return to the win column when the Bearcats (7-13) host in-state foe Canisius (6-12) at 3 p.m. Tuesday at the Bearcats Baseball Stadium. The game will be broadcast on ESPN+.

The Bearcats are coming off a tough weekend in Baltimore, where BU dropped a three-game set at UMBC. On the heels of three straight wins but still nursing some lineup injuries, the Bearcats have now lost four straight. The team is hitting .257 and has a 5.63 ERA — both second in the America East.

Junior catcher Evin Sullivan is hitting .413 in his last 11 games and ranks second in the conference in hitting (.338). Junior outfielder Logan Haskell is also hitting .413 in his last 11 games and has raised his season average to .311. Senior outfielder Mike Gunning continues to lead BU in home runs (7) and RBI (18). He is tied for second in the conference in home runs and is third in RBI. Graduate pitcher Spencer Howell (0-1, 9.64 ERA) gets the start but BU is expected to utilize several pitchers in the game.

The Golden Griffins are coming off a weekend sweep at the hands of George Washington and have lost five straight. Canisius was picked to finish third in the MAAC preseason poll. Last season, the team went 26-25-1, including a 16-8 MAAC record. The Griffs advanced to the NCAA Regionals in 2022. After finishing above .500 in conference play last season, Canisius holds the longest active streak in Division I baseball with 16 consecutive seasons with a winning conference record.

The team is led by junior outfielder and first team all-conference selection Jackson Strong, who is hitting .409 with five home runs and 16 RBI.

Canisius leads the head-to-head series 5-4, thanks to a 22-7 home win last March. Before last year, the teams met in 2015 with BU prevailing 18-15 in 11 innings.
