VESTAL, N.Y. - Riding high after another walkoff win, Binghamton baseball (8-13) travels to Tennessee for a three-game series against first-time Conference USA opponent Middle Tennessee State (10-13) in Murfreesboro. The teams will play Thursday and Friday nights and Saturday afternoon at Reese Smith Jr. Field. Both teams are on their bye weeks from conference play.
The Bearcats provided another dramatic home win on Tuesday, rallying from a 10-1 hole to walkoff Canisius 11-10 in the bottom of the ninth. The win was BU's third walkoff in a three-week span and raised the team's home mark to 4-1 this spring.
Junior catcher
Evin Sullivan leads the team with a .329 average and junior outfielder
Logan Haskell is next at .308. Senior outfielder
Mike Gunning (.305) shares the conference lead with eight home runs and is third with 19 RBI.
The Bearcats are hitting .258 as a team and have a 5.85 pitching ERA. Both marks rank second in the America East.
Middle Tennessee State is coming off a 12-5 loss at Indiana on Tuesday. The Blue Raiders took two of three against familiar BU foe St. Bonaventure earlier in March and last weekend, dropped two of three to C-USA opponent Liberty. MTSU returns five everyday position players from a 27-win team a year ago. That squad went 14-16 in C-USA and won its first two conference tournament games as the No. 7 seed before bowing out. The program had four players sign MLB contracts after last season.
Senior catcher Briggs Rutter is the top hitter in C-USA with a .443 average. He has rive home runs and 27 RBI. Senior third baseman Gabe Jennings is hitting .407 with 18 RBI. The Blue Raiders are batting a conference-best .315 as a team.
