Bearcats compete at Raleigh Relays and Princeton Open

RALEIGH, N.C./PRINCETON, N.J. – The Binghamton track & field teams opened the 2024 outdoor campaign at the non-scoring N.C. State/Raleigh Relays and Princeton/Howell Open this weekend. Between the two meets, the Bearcats turned in a school record, a freshman record and three first-place performances.

On Thursday night at the Raleigh Relays, senior Josh Stone broke the Binghamton program record in the men's 10,000. His time of 29:21.37 eclipsed the previous record of 29:35.48, which was set by Jeff Martinez back in 2011.

The Raleigh Relays is one of the most prestigious early season meets in the nation during the outdoor season with programs from all over the nation attending. Out of 107 total finishers in the 10,000, Stone placed 52nd overall

Meanwhile, at Princeton on Saturday, redshirt freshman Brian Luciano was fourth overall in the men's hammer with a distance of 196-6. In the process, he broke the Binghamton freshman record of 182-6, which was set by David Bernstein in 2017.

The Bearcats' three first-place finishes at Princeton included senior Jenna Chan in the women's 100 hurdles (13.92) and fellow senior Marcrene Jeannot in the men's triple jump (48-10). In addition, the women's 4x100 relay team of graduate students Gabby Hyatt and Sophia Morone, sophomore Angie Mesa-Espinosa and freshman Tatum Norris clocked a winning time of 46.71.

Elsewhere on the men's side at Princeton, senior Marcus Johnson was second in the 400 hurdles.

Junior Lucciana Robertson, meanwhile, was second in the women's high jump (5-6). Hyatt and Morone both recorded fourth-place finishes - in the 100 (12.35) and 200 (25.05) respectively.

Binghamton heads to a pair of meets this coming weekend - the Colonial Relays at William & Mary as well as the Delaware Invitational. Both meets will take place Friday-Saturday.
