VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer finishes up a three-games-in-eight-days stretch when the Bearcats (1-3-2) host reigning Northeast Conference finalist Wagner (1-2-3) Sunday afternoon. The teams will square off at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex.
On Thursday night the team battled ACC member Syracuse to a 1-0 loss. The Orange tallied the game's lone goal in the 31st minute but Binghamton looked the stronger side for much of the second half and had several quality chances to equalize, including a shot that banked off the crossbar.Â
Binghamton has two games remaining before beginning defense of its back-to-back America East regular season crowns. Conference play begins Sept. 22 up in Orono, Maine.Â
The Seahawks are coming off a 3-2 win over fellow America East team NJIT on Thursday. They scored all three goals in the first half and held off a Highlanders second-half rally. The win gave Wagner a modest two-game unbeaten streak after they tied Fordham 1-1 one week earlier. The team also has scoreless ties against Rider and Iona. The Seahawks went 8-8-4 last year and reached the NEC championship game as a No. 6 seed before coming up just short of an NCAA berth after falling 4-3 in a shootout against Central Connecticut State. The team was picked fourth in the NEC Preseason Poll — it's highest mark in nine years.
Binghamton and Wagner tied 2-2 last September on Staten Island. The Bearcats are 2-0-1 in the all-time series after wins in 2019 (1-0) and 2006 (4-0). Â
