Micah Roes returns to wrestling program as assistant coach

| By:

Roes won 65 matches in five seasons at Binghamton; qualified for nationals as a true freshman in 2021

VESTAL, N.Y. – Binghamton Head Wrestling Coach Ryan LeBlanc announced Wednesday that former Bearcats wrestler Micah Roes is returning to the program as an assistant coach.

"I am excited to welcome Micah to our staff," said LeBlanc. "His experience as a national qualifier and his hands-on work with our lighter weights make him a perfect fit and a great addition to our program."

Roes rejoins the program after completing a stellar five-year career at Binghamton from 2020-25. The Lowville, N.Y., native won 65 matches, including 30 in duals, while also posting 12 major decisions, 10 pins and six technical falls.

"It is an honor to join the coaching staff at Binghamton," said Roes. "As an alum, it is a great opportunity for me to give back to the program that helped me grow both on and off the mat. Coaching has given me the opportunity to appreciate the sport from a new perspective. I am very excited to work with the next class of student-athletes to continue building this program and pursue success. I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside a dedicated coaching staff and bring the lessons I learned as an athlete back into the wrestling room."

In 2021, Roes became the third true freshman in program history to earn a bid for the NCAA Wrestling Championships. He received an at-large bid following a fourth-place finish at the EIWA Championships at 125 lbs. At nationals that season, Roes picked up a 10-4 victory against Iowa State's Kysen Terukina.

Roes went on to reach the podium at the EIWA Championships two more times throughout his Binghamton career, both at 133 lbs. He finished seventh in 2024, followed by a fifth-place finish in 2025.

While competing at Lowville High School, Roes was a three-time New York State placewinner (2018-20), reaching the finals before finishing second twice (2019, '20). He completed his high school career with a record of 162-17, along with 73 pins and 37 technical falls.

In the classroom at Binghamton, Roes received All-Academic honors from the EIWA three years in a row from 2023-25. He went on to receive his bachelor's degree in geography and urban planning in 2024 and his Master of Business Administration in 2025, both from Binghamton.

By joining LeBlanc's staff, Roes reunites with two of his former teammates in fellow assistant coaches Brevin Cassella and Lou DePrez. He will help a Bearcats team that is in the early stages of its dual season. On Dec. 13, Binghamton opened its dual season by defeating Bloomsburg 24-13, winning seven out of the 10 matches.

Binghamton next competes at 6:07 p.m., on Friday for its home opener against LIU in the Events Center. During the dual, the Bearcats will celebrate Military Appreciation Night by honoring active and former members of the military. Additionally, the first 100 fans to enter the Events Center will receive a Binghamton hat. Team posters will also be available for fans in attendance. Admission is free on behalf of the New York Army National Guard.

The New York Army National Guard is the presenting sponsor of Bearcats Wrestling.
