VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball returns to the road for its second weekend of the spring season when the Bearcats (0-3) bus down to Elon, N.C. to face the Phoenix (1-3) in a three-game set. The teams play Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Latham Park (2,000 capacity).

Binghamton opened its season at Texas State last weekend and had chances to win all three games with runners on base in 18 (of 27) innings. Four players registered three or more hits and five drove in runs during the weekend. The pitching staff held a 4.50 earned run average. Senior catcher/DH Evin Sullivan rode a Saturday grand slam to six RBI in the series. Graduate first baseman Freddy Forgione hit a team-best .556 (5-for-9) and freshman center fielder Matt Bolton hit .300 and recorded an inside-the-park home run in his first collegiate at-bat. 

Graduate pitcher Ryan Packard worked 4.0 innings of relief and allowed just one earned run. Packard has moved into the Friday slot in the starting rotation. 

Elon is coming off a 16-3 clubbing of Presbyterian at home on Tuesday. That followed an a tough opening weekend series at No. 1 Texas A&M, which resulted in losses of 4-2, 16-6 and 12-6. The Phoenix were picked to finish sixth of 12 in the CAA Preseason Poll after a 21-win campaign in 2024. Elon won 10 games in the competitive CAA and posted series wins over Minnesota and UMass and a ranked win over Wake Forest. The team's No. 1 pitcher (Friday starter), junior right-hander Justin Mitrovich, is a projected top-six-round pick in the 2025 MLB Amateur Draft. Mitrovich stifled No. 1 Texas A&M on one hit through 5.0 innings last Friday in College Station. 

The series pits two longtime collegiate coaches as 33rd-year Binghamton head coach Tim Sinicki faces 29th-year Elon mentor Mike Kennedy.
