Cassella earns No. 6 seed at 174 lbs., Day placed as the No. 19 seed at 285 lbs.

VESTAL, N.Y. – Brevin Cassella and Cory Day now know who they will face first at the 2025 NCAA Wrestling Championships as both of the Binghamton wrestling team's national qualifiers learned their seeding, which was announced Wednesday night.

Cassella enters the tournament as the No. 6 seed at 174 lbs., where he will first face No. 27 Jasiah Queen of Drexel. Day, who was seeded No. 19, will first face No. 14 Gavin Hoffman of Lock Haven.

This is the highest seeding that Cassella has received in what will be his fourth appearance at nationals. The fifth year wrestler comes off of winning his first EIWA championship last weekend, the first Bearcat to clinch an individual conference title since Assistant Coach Lou DePrez won the last of his three-consecutive EIWA championships in 2022. Cassella was also one of two wrestlers to receive the EIWA Coaches' Trophy for being voted as the outstanding wrestler of the tournament. He is the first Bearcat to be given the honor by the conference. Additionally, Cassella's win against Danny Wask of Navy in the finals was the 100th victory of his collegiate career.

Cassella, who now has a record of 25-4, prepares to face Queen for the first time this season. When the Bearcats wrestled Drexel back on Jan. 18, Queen defeated Roberto Padilla in the 174 lb. bout.

Day enters his third NCAA tournament next week after finishing a career-best second at EIWAs. The graduate student is 20-6 on the year and ranks fourth among Division I wrestlers in falls this season with a career-high 13. The heavyweight previously lost to Hoffman 6-3 in the Bearcats' dual against Lock Haven back on Jan. 5.

Both Cassella and Day aim to bring Binghamton onto the podium at nationals for the first time since 2021, when DePrez finished eighth at 184 lbs. Overall, Binghamton has six Division I All-Americans since making its first appearance in the NCAA Division I tournament in 2002. Donnie Vinson has the highest finish after he placed third in 2012 at 149 lbs.

The NCAA Wrestling Championships take place from March 20-22 at Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia, Pa. Cassella and Day will wrestle in the opening round on March 20, with the first session beginning at noon.
