RALEIGH, N.C./WEST LONG BRANCH, N.J. – Redshirt sophomore Brian Luciano broke his own school record in the men's hammer while sophomore Tatum Norris and junior Alyssa Armitage each captured an individual event, highlighting the Binghamton track & field teams' opening weekend of the outdoor season. The Bearcats competed at both the N.C. State/Raleigh Relays as well as the Monmouth Season Opener.
There was no team scoring at the Raleigh Relays but there was at Monmouth. The Bearcat men placed 10th out of 18 scoring teams while the women were fifth out of 20 squads.
Luciano competed in Raleigh, which is one of the biggest early season meets in the East Region. He placed fifth out of 53 finishers with a distance of 213-5. That eclipsed his 2024 mark of 209-2.
Saturday's performance climaxed a big week for Luciano. He was named the America East's Men's Indoor Track & Field Performer of the Year on Wednesday.
Armitage and Norris, meanwhile, competed at Monmouth. Armitage won the pole vault (12-6) while Norris took top honors in the 400 (56.08) and was also fifth in the pole vault (11-0 ¾).
During the recent conference indoor meet, Armitage won her third straight pole vault crown while Norris tied for third place.
Elsewhere on the women's side at Monmouth, sophomore Kaylen Tenemille tied for second in the 100 (12.22) while freshman Cassidy Robleno was fourth in the 400 hurdles (1:04.86). Sophomore Ashlyn Rattray was fifth in the 100 (12.29).
The Bearcats' top men's finisher at Monmouth was freshman Jacob Park, who was fourth in the pole vault (13-9 ¼). Sophomore Putu Sutayasa was fifth in the long jump (23-3 ¾) and fellow sophomore Matthew Oluwole was fifth in the high jump.
