Baseball plays at St. Bonaventure Tuesday afternoon

Bearcats and Bonnies tangle for second time this season; first pitch at 3 p.m. in Olean

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (13-11) meets in-state foe St. Bonaventure (9-16) for the second time in three weeks when they square off at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Handler Park at McGraw-Jennings Field in Olean. The game continues a stretch of seven straight road games for the Bearcats. 

The Bearcats have won nine of their last 12 and early in that winning stretch was a 7-6 walkoff of the Bonnies on March 11 in Vestal. Binghamton is batting .284 as a team (2nd in America East) and has a 6.20 pitching ERA (3rd). Its .982 fielding percentage ranks 11th in the nation. The Bearcats are tied for first in the America East (4-2), having taken two of three from both Maine and UAlbany to begin conference play. 

Senior catcher Zach Rogacki leads the team with a .369 average - fourth-best in the conference. Freshman center fielder Matt Bolton is hitting .365 and graduate first baseman Freddy Forgione is hitting .341. Senior third baseman Devan Bade leads the team with 22 RBI. 

St. Bonaventure has started conference play in the challenging Atlantic 10 and dropped two of three aet Saint Louis over the weekend. The Bonnies are 2-7 in league play. As a team they are hitting .263, have a 10.05 pitching ERA and a .953 fielding percentage. Sophomore center fielder and No. 3 hitter Jayce Tharnish leads the team and ranks ninth in the A-10 with a .398 average. Tharnish has a .470 on-base percentage. 

Binghamton leads the all-time series 13-5. In that first matchup three weeks ago, Binghamton walked off St. Bona on a wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth inning. After the Bonnies tied it with three runs in the top of the frame, the Bearcats pushed across the game-winner in the bottom. The Bearcats scored in every other inning, plating runs in the first, third, fifth, seventh and ninth innings. Bade went 4-for-5, junior second baseman Zack Kent belted a two-run home run and Forgione hit a solo shot.
