VESTAL, N.Y. - Three Binghamton men's basketball players received season honors from the America East, the conference announced Friday. Graduate guard
Tymu Chenery was named to the all-conference second team, sophomore forward
Gavin Walsh was chosen for the third team and graduate forward
Ben Callahan-Gold was voted to the All-Academic Team.
The all-conference honors for Chenery and Walsh give the Bearcats two selections for the first time in 16 years. Callahan-Gold becomes the fourth Binghamton All-Academic honoree in the last three years.
In his final collegiate season, Chenery played a pivotal role in Binghamton's 15-win regular season. With the award, he bookends a collegiate career that began with MAAC All-Rookie honors for Quinnipiac in 2020-21. His career points total is approaching 1,500 (1,484) and in two seasons at Binghamton, Chenery has been a stalwart in the lineup. This season he is averaging a team-high 14.2 points and also leads the team in assists (3.2/game) and blocks (1.0). Chenery has scored in double figures 25 times, including 16 games of 15 or more points. Chenery's name is spread across the stat sheet and America East leaders. In conference play, he ranks among the top-15 in scoring, assists, blocks, field goal percentage and minutes. Chenery is averaging 35.5 minutes, which ranks among the program's top five.
Walsh has produced a record-setting season on the glass. He ranks among the nation's top-five rebounders and is one of only three players across the country averaging at least 11 points and 11 rebounds (11.5 ppg., 11.0 rpg.). His rebound average is 2.4 more per game than the next closest America East player and he's set new records for rebounds in a game (23), season (330) and double-doubles in a season (14). Walsh currently is second in NCAA in defensive rebounds (8.8), third in rebounds per game (11.0), fourth in total rebounds (330) and ninth in double-doubles (AE-leading 14). He is one of just two players in NCAA with pair of 20+ rebound games. His single-game-record 23 boards vs. UML on Feb. 6 is tied for fourth-highest in America East history, behind pair of NBA draft picks (Malik Rose, Drexel and Spencer Dunkley, Delaware). It's also the highest total in an America East regular season game in 30 years. His current 11.0 average is highest of any America East player in 10 years.
Callahan-Gold has been a key contributor on the court in his final collegiate season after transferring from Trinity College. He is averaging 8.9 points and has a team-high 58 3-pointers. In the classroom, Callahan-Gold has a 3.93 GPA in Binghamton's public administration master's program. He carried a 3.52 undergraduate GPA in psychology at Trinity.
The Bearcats open their postseason with a quarterfinal game at UAlbany Saturday night.
