Bearcats and Black Bears tangle Friday and Saturday afternoons, Sunday morning in second-to-last series

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball looks to strengthen its position in the standings when the Bearcats (21-21, 9-9 America East) travel nine+ hours north to Orono to face Maine (19-25, 12-9 AE) in a three-game series at Mahaney Diamond. The teams play Friday and Saturday afternoons and Sunday morning in the second-to-last regular season series before the America East Championship begins May 21 at Maine.

Binghamton had its Tuesday night non-conference game rained out against Marist and hasn't played a conference opponent since dropping two of three at UMass Lowell two weeks ago. The Bearcats are hitting .284 (2nd in AE), have a 6.39 pitching ERA (4th) and a .974 fielding percentage (2nd).

Senior catcher/outfielder Zach Rogacki leads the team and ranks fourth in the conference with a .364 batting average. Graduate first baseman Freddy Forgione is hitting .349 and has a team-high .460 on-base percentage (5th in AE). Freshman center fielder Matt Bolton leads all conference rookies with 58 hits. Senior third baseman Devan Bade ranks third in the league in both home runs (9) and RBI (41). Senior catcher/DH Evin Sullivan is second in home runs (11) and third in slugging (.619).

Maine is coming off a three-game sweep at the hands of league-leading Bryant but still sits in second place with a 12-9 conference mark. The Black Bears took two of three against UMBC and NJIT in previous series'. Maine is batting .281 (2nd in AE), has a 5.49 pitching ERA (2nd) and a .967 fielding percentage (3rd).

Maine leads the all-time series 48-43, thanks to nine wins in the last 13 matchups. In the first series between the two teams on March 21-22 in Vestal, Binghamton dropped the opener 5-2 before sweeping a doubleheader, 9-8 and 8-3.
