Eight Bearcats are recognized for their success on the mat and in the classroom

VESTAL, N.Y. – The Binghamton wrestling team has once again been recognized for its success on the mat and in the classroom, as the EIWA announced Friday that eight Bearcat wrestlers have received the conference's academic achievement award.

Carter Baer, Cayden Bevis, Brevin Cassella, Cory Day, Will Ebert, Nate Lucier, Fin Nadeau and Micah Roes were given the award after each wrestler met a criteria set by the league. To be eligible to get this award, a wrestler must have either achieved a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 and have participated in the EIWA Championships or have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and have competed in the NCAA Wrestling Championships.

Binghamton's eight selections are the second-most among the 12 members of the conference. It also matches the number of award winners the Bearcats had in 2024 with Baer, Day, Lucier and Roes among that group. Day, Lucier and Roes also earned the honor in 2023.

Both Cassella and Day qualified for nationals, with Cassella winning the EIWA championship at 174 lbs., and Day finishing second at 285 lbs. Baer, Bevis, Ebert, Lucier and Roes each also made it on the podium at the EIWAs. Baer finished fourth at 165 lbs., Roes placed fifth at 133 lbs., both Bevis and Ebert finished sixth at 197 and 184 lbs. respectively and Lucier finished eighth at 141 lbs.

These are not the only academic accolades that Binghamton wrestling has gotten this year. In April, Baer, Day, Lucier and Nadeau each were named a Scholar All-American by the National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA). It is the second-largest number of NWCA Scholar All-Americans the program has had in one season. Both Baer and Day were among the program-record five Scholar All-Americans the Bearcats had in 2024. In total, Binghamton has had 38 Scholar All-Americans dating back to 2003.
