Cross Country Opens Season at Colgate Invite

Rappazzo second overall in women’s race

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Freshman Alice Rappazzo was the runner up in the women's race, highlighting Binghamton's performance at the season-opening Colgate Invitational at the Harry Lang Class of '48 Fitness Trails on Saturday. In the team standings, both the Bearcat men's and women's squads were third out of three teams behind Syracuse and the host Raiders.

In her first collegiate meet, Rappazzo covered the women's 5,000-meter course in a time of 18:12. Fellow freshman Taylor Page was 15th (19:47) followed by junior Abigail Litwiller in 17th place (19:53).

Jayden Harberts of Syracuse claimed the women's individual title with a time of 17:55. She also paced an Orange team that won the team title with 24 points. Colgate finished with 47 points followed by Binghamton with 67 points.

There were 34 finishers in the women's race.

Binghamton's top men's finisher on Saturday was freshman Anthony Zazzaro, who was 12th overall with a 6,000-meter time of 19:42. He was followed in the team standings by fellow freshman George Thomatos in 15th place (19:46), sophomore John Garrison in 16th place (19:48), freshman Noah Hilker in 17th place (19:50) and freshman Leo Clark in 18th place (19:51).

Syracuse took the top seven places to win the men's team title with the minimum team score of 15 points. Asher Danielson was first across the line with a time of 18:56.3. The host Raiders edged Binghamton for second place 59-69.

There were 44 finishers in the men's race.

Up next for Binghamton is the Iona Meet of Champions on Sept. 12 at 10 a.m. at Van Cortlandt Park.
