Longtime coach has played key role in Bearcats' unmatched success over two decades

VESTAL, N.Y. - On the heels of yet another America East baseball title and NCAA Regional berth, longtime assistant Ryan Hurba has been promoted to Associate Head Coach, the Division announced Thursday afternoon.

"I am very pleased to make official Ryan's promotion to Associate Head Coach," Head Coach Tim Sinicki said. "This is a well-deserved new role and opportunity, based on his commitment and dedication to the program for the past 20 years. Ryan's passion for teaching and coaching this great game of ours had led to the development of many players and ultimately tremendous overall success for the program."

Now beginning his 21st year working with Sinicki, Hurba has played a vital role in building a Bearcats' program that has amassed 12 combined America East regular season and tournament titles in the last 18 years. That pace is unmatched by any other conference baseball program or any Binghamton sports team. He came to campus in 2006 and has excelled as the team's hitting coach and recruiting coordinator. Hurba is the longest-tenured assistant coach in any sport in the school's 25-year Division I era.

"It's hard to believe that 20 years has gone by, but I take that as a sign of how much I've enjoyed my job," Hurba said. "Tim hiring me to be a full-time coach 20 years ago is one of the biggest blessings in my life. It allowed me to start a family while doing what I love ... coach baseball. I treasure the relationship we've had for two decades and the overall camaraderie he breeds in the program. It really is a great place to go to work everyday."

Hurba had collegiate coaching stops at Mount Olive College (NC) and Brevard CC (FL) before joining Binghamton. He has also served for two years as a scout with the Milwaukee Brewers.

Hurba had a decorated collegiate career earning national All-America honors at Oswego State in 1996. He was a three-time all-region selection, three-time all conference selection and two-time ECAC all-star. In 2001, Hurba was inducted into Oswego's Baseball Hall of Fame.  He still owns the career record for home runs in Oswego State baseball history.

Hurba's sports affinity began in the Southern Tier, where he was a three-sport athlete at Bainbridge-Guilford High School. There, he earned All Susquenango League honors in both baseball and football and also won more than 120 career matches on the wrestling mat.

Ryan resides in Endwell, NY with his wife Carrie and children Kaylee and T.J.

"Tim placing such high value on work and family balance has made the sacrifices understandable for Carrie and our kids," he said. "The Hurba crew bleeds Green…and that buy-in plays a big role in the energy I bring every day. We feel so fortunate to be a part of this program and community and I couldn't be more thankful for the last 20 years."
