HAMILTON, N.Y. – To open the 2025-26 season,
Jackson Vesper reached uncharted territory by earning his first top five finish of his collegiate career. The junior tied for fifth out of 92 golfers at the Alex Lagowitz Memorial Sunday at Seven Oaks Golf Club.
Vesper finished the 54-hole tournament with a score of 73-71-72 = 216/even-par. Vesper's second round, which had to be completed on Sunday due to play being suspended on Saturday because of darkness, had the golfer finish with a score of 71/1-under par, tying his lowest score over 18 holes for his collegiate career. Vesper previously shot 71/1-under par in the second round of the inaugural Testudo Cup back in April of 2025.
"He really made some great shots today, putted really well all week and struck the ball solid," said Binghamton Head Golf Coach
Bernie Herceg. "So, hats off to Jackson, who really helped our team with his consistency and good form."
Overall, Binghamton finished eighth out of 14 teams at 296-293-296 = 885/21-over par.
Brandon Conner and
Jack Tebeau, the latter of whom was making his collegiate debut, tied for 42nd at 225/9-over par.
Along with Tebeau, both
Beckham Chiew and
Alex Patel also made their debut this weekend. Patel finished tied for 64th at 80-73-77 = 230/14-over par. Chiew, who competed as an individual, finished tied for 71st at 77-80-75 = 232/16-over par.
"It's just valuable experience for them to get the competition under their belt like this for the first event of the year," said Herceg. "So, I'm really looking forward to seeing where that takes us as the year moves on and having them gain more experience."
Lehigh won the event at 285-288-283 = 856/8-under par. Noah Zyung also took home medalist honors for the Mountain Hawks after he finished with a score of 68-73-66 = 207/9-under par.
Binghamton's next competition is a new one for the program, as it will compete at Delaware's Blue Hen Intercollegiate from Sept. 15-16 at White Clay Creek Country Club in Wilmington, Del.
