Bearcats and fifth-seeded Retrievers meet at 1 p.m.; winner plays for America East championship

VESTAL, N.Y. - Regular season champion Binghamton women's soccer begins its postseason when the top-seeded Bearcats (8-3-5) host fifth-seeded UMBC (10-5-4) in an America East semifinal at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. At stake is a spot in the conference final, which Binghamton would host on Nov. 14. Second-seeded Bryant hosts third-seeded Maine in the other semifinal.

Tickets for the game can be purchased here. Prices are $12 for adults and $6 for youths 14 and under.

Binghamton clinched its fourth regular season title in the last five years two weeks ago and then with nothing to play for, dropped its final game of the slate at Vermont 1-0 last Sunday. That loss snapped the program's 21-game conference unbeaten streak (13-0-8), which dated back to 2024.

The Bearcats will carry the No. 1 seed into the tournament for the fourth time in the last five years. Binghamton will look to snap a string of three straight semifinal setbacks and return to the championship game for the first time since 2022. The Bearcats are eying the program's first postseason title and NCAA berth since 2004.

UMBC advanced with a 1-0 overtime win over Vermont thanks to a Catamount "own goal." The Retrievers were outshot 20-3 but capitalized 2:41 into the first extra period. It was UMBC's first win in five games (0-2-2). One of those ties was a scoreless home tie against the Bearcats on Oct. 15.

Binghamton owns a 20-2-3 cushion in the all-time series - its most dominant head-to-head mark against any America East opponent. But despite the wide margin, the last three encounters have been decided by just one goal (or less) each.
