VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball plays its second series of the season when the Bearcats (0-3) head south to Williamsburg for a three-game set at CAA member William & Mary (0-3). Weather permitting, the teams will play single games Friday, Saturday and Sunday afternoons at Plumeri Park.
The Bearcats battled opening weekend against a nationally-prominent Dallas Baptist team, dropping three games but playing a much tighter 6-3 final game.
Sophomore center fielder
Matt Bolton hit .375 with two doubles in the series and reached base in more than half his at-bats. Sophomore first baseman
Steven Kraus drove in two runs. Junior reliever
Jackson Mitchell didn't allow an earned run in 3.1 innings of work and freshman
Mason Holloway flashed his potential with four strikeouts in 1.2 innings.
William & Mary opened their season with three losses at Virginia Tech. The Tribe lost 9-2, 8-7 and 8-2. The team returns 22 players from last year's squad that went 21-35, including 14 wins in conference play. Preseason All-CAA infielder Jamie Laskofski had a home run, double and four hits in the Va. Tech series. The Tribe also brought in six transfers with various levels of college experience along with 14 freshmen.
