Swimming & Diving competes in first day of AE Meet

Bearcat men second, women in sixth place


LEXINGTON, Va. – Binghamton opened up the America East Swimming & Diving Championships on Wednesday at the VMI Aquatic Center. With three events scored in the four-day meet, the Bearcat men are in second place out of six teams with 115 points, which is 10 points behind first-place UMBC (125). On the women's side, Binghamton sits in sixth place out of seven squads with 72 points.Ā 

Binghamton got a runner-up finish from its men's 800 free relay team of senior Liam Preston, junior Harrison Lambert as well as sophomores William Deutmeyer and Evan Peters. The Bearcat quartet's time was 6:33.35.

The women's 800 free relay team of freshman Lauren Maierle, sophomore Leonor Coelho, sophomore Eva Smith and freshman Erica Czeremcha placed fourth with a time of 7:31.31. In the process, they broke the Binghamton school record of 7:32.28. The previous mark was set in 2022.

In addition, Maierle led off that relay with a 200 free split of 1:51.47. That broke the Bearcats' freshman record of 1:52.30, which was set by Coelho last year.

In the men's three-meter diving competition, the Bearcats posted four of the top nine finishers. Junior Dylan Norby was fourth (307.10), followed by sophomore Jacob Koclanis in fifth place (287.55), freshman Samuel Pikofsky-Christiansen in sixth place (270.95) and senior David Marshall in ninth place (218.75).

Senior Elizabeth Tirado, meanwhile, was seventh in the women's one-meter diving event (225.30).

Day two of the America East Championships begins Thursday at 10 a.m.Ā
