Preston Named AE Men's Swimming Scholar-Athlete

Senior standout adds to his long list of major honors

VESTAL, N.Y. – Senior Liam Preston has added another prestigious honor to his illustrious career.

The America East has named him as the 2026 Men's Swimming & Diving Scholar-Athlete. It marks the first time that Preston has earned the conference's annual accolade.

In order to qualify for the America East Scholar-Athlete Award in a sport, a student-athlete must be projected starter on their team and carry a minimum cumulative GPA or 3.50. All sport Scholar-Athletes are automatically eligible for the America East Male and Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year awards, which will be announced in July.Ā 

Preston earned all-conference honors for the fourth year in a row with a third-place finish in the 200 free at the America East Championships back in February. He was also the 2026 David Alexander Coaches' Award winner for scoring the most career points at the conference meet by a graduating senior.

In the classroom, Preston has been named to the America East All-Academic Team three straight years (2024-26) and was the 2025 America East Elite 18 Award Winner. He is also a 2025 National College Athlete Honor Society Inductee and has been named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) 2024 and 2025 Academic All-District Teams.

Preston is Binghamton's eighth men's swimming & diving America East Scholar-Athlete winner and the first since Ryan Board in 2020. Other previous recipients include Robert Kaczynski (2005), Brian Koizim (2006 & 2007), Brenno Varanda (2008), Joe-Perez Rogers (2011) and Ross Bernstein (2018).

During Preston's career, Binghamton has won the men's America East championship twice (2024 & 2025) and has been the runner up the other two years (2023 & 2026).
