Carey and Payne Earn AE Weekly Awards

Bearcat duo honored for performances during recent homestand

VESTAL, N.Y. – Sophomore third baseman Rachel Carey and freshman first Lauren Payne have each been honored by the America East. Carey has been named the conference's Co-Player of the Week while Payne collected the Rookie of the Week award. 

Carey continued her stellar season by hitting a team-best .611 (11-for-18) with two home runs and seven RBI during the Bearcats' five-game home stand this past weekend. Her on-base percentage was .600 and her slugging percentage was 1.000. Carey had four multiple-hit games during the week - including three three-hit performances. For the season, Carey leads the America East with a .475 batting average and is tied for first with five home runs and 15 RBI. In addition, Carey has a conference-best 1.263 OPS.

Payne, meanwhile, hit .533 (8-for-15) during the same five-game stretch. She turned in three multiple-hit performances, had a .556 on-base percentage and .600 slugging percentage. Payne also scored three times during the week and drove in three runs. For the season, she ranks ninth in the America East with a .340 batting average. 

This marks the first time that Carey and Payne have received their respective weekly awards. Carey was named the America East Rookie of the Week three times last season and was eventually chosen as the conference's Rookie of the Year.

Binghamton travels to Princeton for a three-game series this coming Saturday and Sunday.
