VESTAL, N.Y. - After 12 consecutive road games to open the season, Binghamton baseball begins a stretch of five straight at home when the Bearcats (4-8) host St. Bonaventure (4-10) Tuesday afternoon. The teams play the first of two scheduled games this spring at 3 p.m. at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.
Over the weekend, Binghamton took two of three from Richmond. The team also has wins over William and Mary and High Point. Sophomore center fielder
Matt Bolton ranks fourth in the America East in on-base percentage (.436). On the hill, junior closer
Jackson Mitchell hasn't allowed an earned run in five outings and has 17 strikeouts in 12.1 innings. Opponents are hitting .077 off him. Senior
Dan McAliney (1-0, 0.00 ERA) gets the start against Bona.
The Bonnies have dropped five straight since beating Navy on Feb. 28. Over the weekend, they lost three games at Marshall. Bona's other wins came against UNC Asheville (twice) and Middle Tennessee. The team is hitting .261 and has a 6.98 pitching ERA.
Junior 3B Manuel Castro leads the team with a .346 average. Senior SS Chris Hoalcraft, the team's top RBI man a year ago (47), is hitting .327 with a team-best nine RBIs.
Binghamton leads the all-time series, which began in 1952, 14-6. Last year the teams split a pair of one-run games.
