Baseball set for midweek matchup against Siena

| By:

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (13-13) gets set to host Siena (9-18) for a midweek matchup on Wednesday, beginning at 3 p.m. at the Bearcats Baseball Complex.

Binghamton begins a stretch of 11-of-12 at home with today's non-conference matchup. Looming this weekend is a key America East series against league-leading UMBC. The Bearcats are coming off a three-game sweep of NJIT last weekend. They have won seven of their last nine.

Sophomores Braylen Gonzalez and Sean Sweeney continued to shine at the top of the lineup with three hits each in Sunday's win. Leadoff hitter Gonzalez raised his season on-base percentage to .507 and Sweeney, now with enough at-bats to qualify, moved to No. 1 in the America East in hitting (.523) and OPS (1.259). The pair rank 2-3 in the America East in on-base percentage.

The Saints took two of three against Mount St. Mary's last weekend but have dropped seven of their last 10. The team is 7-11 and in 11th place in the MAAC. Siena is hitting .261 and has a 6.92 pitching ERA.

The team returned eight of nine starting position players from a third-place MAAC team last spring. The Saints were picked to tie for sixth in the MAAC Preseason Coaches' Poll. Standouts Aidan Paradine and Jake Sparks were named Preseason All-MAAC selections.

Binghamton leads the all-time series, which began in 1979, 18-10. The Bearcats have won seven of the last eight head-to-head, including two games last season (3-2 and 11-6).
