Bearcats and Retrievers open weekend series at 2 p.m. Friday

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton baseball (14-13, 6-3 America East) hosts UMBC (16-11, 5-1 AE) in a matchup between the top two teams in the America East this weekend at the Stadium. The three-game series opens with a 2 p.m. tilt Friday.

The Bearcats have won four straight and eight of their last 10 to climb over the .500 mark for the first time this season. On Wednesday, the team produced a run-rule shortened 11-1 win over Siena, despite collecting just six hits. Last weekend, Binghamton swept a three-game set from NJIT to pull into second place in the standings as the teams near the halfway point in the schedule.

The Bearcats rank fourth in the AE in hitting (.258) and fifth in both pitching (6.19 ERA) and fielding (.965). Sophomore second baseman Sean Sweeney continues to lead the conference in hitting (.523), slugging (.659) and OPS (1.259). Sophomore right fielder Braylen Gonzalez ranks third in on-base percentage (.513) and sophomore center fielder Matt Bolton in fourth in hits (34).

The Retrievers are coming off an 11-0 home loss to Maryland on Tuesday. Last weekend, UMBC took two of three from Iona and the team has now won seven of its last nine to sit atop the America East standings. UMBC ranks first in the conference in hitting (.286), third in fielding (.967) and fourth in pitching (5.70 ERA).

Since the Retrievers joined the America East in 2004, Binghamton leads the series 62-33, though UMBC has drawn closer by winning six of the last nine regular season matchups. After dropping two of three during the 2025 regular season, the Bearcats toppled UMBC 14-8 at the America East tournament last May in Orono. Binghamton began the head-to-head series by winning 40-of-47 between 2004-14.

Admission to all home Binghamton baseball games this season is free on behalf of United Health Services (UHS).
