VESTAL, N.Y. -- Binghamton wrestling (5-10) rattled off four straight wins at the upper weights and split the 10 bouts but came up shy in its road match against CAA rival Old Dominion (9-5), losing 21-18, Friday night at the Ted Constant Center. The Monarchs used bonus point wins early in the match to build the deciding margin.

After dropping the first three bouts and digging a 12-0 hole, Binghamton cut its deficit in half, thanks to a record-setting performance by senior 149-pound Donnie Vinson. Needing one more win to become the school's all-time wins leader, Vinson made quick work of his opponent, polishing off a first-period pin to notch victory No. 124 in his stellar four-year career (124-25).

Vinson, a reigning All-American and three-time NCAA qualifier, broke a tie with former teammate Josh Patterson (2006-10). He remained unbeaten in duals this season (15-0) and improved to 25-1 overall. Vinson, No. 5 in the latest InterMat poll, is 69-8 in career duals and is positioned at No. 3 in the first NCAA Coaches' Panel Rankings.

"Donnie becoming Binghamton Wrestling's all time wins leader is quite a significant accomplishment," head coach Matt Dernlan said. "To attain an achievement of this level, speaks to his ability early on in his career to beat the best in the country and sustain that level throughout the duration of his career. More important that his win total, we are very proud of how he has represented Binghamton with class and dignity, while wearing the Green and Black. I know this moment means a lot to him, personally, but his focus now is to finish his career, by chasing down his ultimate goals in March."

After Vinson's historic win, however, ODU posted a pin and a decision at 157 and 165 respectively, to extend its cushion to 21-6, which allowed the host Monarchs to withstand the strong BU finish at the upper weights.

Senior 197-pound Nate Schiedel kept pace with Vinson in duals with a 4-1 decision. Schiedel, ranked No. 6 in the latest InterMat poll and No. 5 in the Coaches' Panel, improved to 15-0 in duals, 22-2 overall. His win was No. 113 for his career (113-30) and moved Schiedel into third place on BU's all-time list (behind only Vinson and Patterson).

Sophomore 174-pound John Paris started BU's comeback with a 4-2 decision. Junior 184-pound Cody Reed went to overtime for a 5-3 win and sophomore heavyweight Tyler Deuel earned his seventh dual win of the season (and 16th overall) with an 11-5 decision in the final bout of the night.

Binghamton next wrestles at American on February 3.
