Men's Soccer Loses 2-0 to Vermont in AE Opener

BURLINGTON, Vt. – Jackson Dayton and Brian Wright scored within a span of four minutes, leading Vermont (7-1-3, 1-0-0 AE) to a 2-0 win over Binghamton (2-7-2, 0-1-0 AE) in an America East men's soccer game on Saturday afternoon at Virtue Field. The match marked the start of the Bearcats' 12th season in the conference.

After a scoreless first half, Dayton took a pass from Bernard Yeboah and from the left side of the box, fired the ball inside the near post. The goal came in the 52nd minute.

Wright, meanwhile, struck in the 56th minute, as he hit a short chip shot into the net. Shane Haley was credited with the assist.

The Catamounts outshot the Bearcats 16-8 for the game, including 9-3 in the second half.

In goal, sophomore Stefano Frantellizzi made five saves.

"Give Vermont credit," head coach Paul Marco said. "They controlled the game for a 10-minute span and were able to get both their goals (during that span). I thought we played well in the first half and was disappointed we didn't get a goal then. Still, we probably could have left something more on the field in the second half."

Binghamton returns home to face UMass Lowell next Saturday at 6 p.m. It will mark the Bearcats' Homecoming Game.
