Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

PRINCESS ANNE, Md. - The Binghamton volleyball team was more consistent offensively Saturday morning, but the Bearcats struggles continued falling to Rider in four sets at the Best Western Wild Weekend Tournament hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore. The Bearcats complete tournament play against Campbell at 2 p.m. from the Hytche Athletic Center.

Senior outside hitter Kristin Hovie led the Bearcats with a team-high 14 kills. Sophomore Kelly Leach recorded her first-ever double-double with a career-high 13 kills and 14 digs, as she continues to fill-in for classmate Allison Hovie in the starting lineup. Senior setter Amanda Dettmann had one of her best performances of the season dishing out a match-high 45 assists adding six kills, five digs and three aces.

"We fought off quite a few set points, which was good to see," head coach Glenn Kiriyama said. "Amanda (Dettmann) had a really good match, keeping everyone involved and running the offense. I think it was the best we've played this weekend. We had more energy on the court and that showed on the floor. A few bounces here or there and it could have been a different outcome."

After dropping the first two sets by identical 25-21 scores, Binghamton led the third set from start to finish. A kill by sophomore Bianca Anderson coupled with an ace from Dettmann pushed the Bearcats out to an 11-4 advantage. Following back-to-back terminations by Dettmann, Rider briefly threatened the Binghamton lead with a 5-0 spurt. A pair of kills from Hovie helped stymie the Broncs momentum.

Binghamton trimmed Rider's lead to 2-1 with the 25-19 second-set victory thanks to 18 kills on a match-high .353 hitting clip.

In a lengthy and hard-fought fourth set, Rider quickly erased an early deficit to take a five-point advantage. Leach kept Binghamton in the frame with a pair of kills to trim the margin to three. After leveling the set at 23, the Bearcats fought off set-point thanks to a kill from freshman Alexis LaGoy. Hovie's 12th kill of the match gave Binghamton one of two set-points. However, Rider fought off the late surge by the Bearcats and captured the advantage. Binghamton battled off five set-points before succumbing to Rider, 33-31.

Binghamton hit .212 for the match, connecting on a tournament-best 58 kills. The Bearcats were much improved in the service game, registering a season-high 10 aces. Sophomore Kasey Muchnicki was responsible for four of the team's 10 aces. Classmate Bailey Walker recorded a match-high 22 digs as Binghamton collected 66 compared to Rider's 47.

CAMPBELL 3, BINGHAMTON 0

The Binghamton volleyball team completed its weekend at the Best Western Wild Weekend Tournament hosted by the University of Maryland Eastern Shore by falling to Campbell University in straight sets. The Bearcats struggled over the weekend winning just one set in four matches.

The Binghamton offense failed to find a rhythm ending the match with almost as many attack errors (23) as kills (24), leading to a .011 hitting clip. Campbell, who picked up its second win of the weekend against the Bearcats, registered a .323 attack percentage as a pair of Camels recorded double-digit kills. A potent Campbell defense held a 12.0-3.0 advantage in blocks.

Junior right side Megan Burgess led the Bearcats with a team-high eight kills while senior Kristin Hovie and freshman Alexis LaGoy added five terminations each. Senior setter Amanda Dettmann finished the match with 14 assists and seven digs.
The Bearcats failed to generate much offense in the opening set, recording just eight kills and a .030 hitting percentage. Burgess recorded three kills in the frame to pull Binghamton within four midway through the stanza. Campbell rode a solid defense to a 25-15 victory in the first set.

Binghamton was held to a negative hitting percentage in the second set as the offense misfired on nine attack attempts. Campbell was efficient offensively, committing just two attack errors which led to a 12-8 advantage in kills. Burgess and LaGoy each tallied three terminations in the second frame, but it wasn't enough as the Bearcats fell 25-17.

Campbell jumped out to an early lead in the final frame and extended its advantage to as large as 10 points. Burgess recorded three kills in the first set, but Binghamton's offense sputtered to a .036 hitting clip. The Camels took completed the sweep, 25-13, thanks to 16 kills and a .500 attack percentage.

Binghamton completes its non-conference schedule with a quick road trip to Ithaca for a Wednesday night matchup with Cornell on Sept. 24. The Bearcats then kick-off America East play against longtime SUNY rival Albany on Friday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. from University Gym.
