Binghamton has been idle since its season-opening 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure last Friday. In that game, freshman forward
Julianne Johnston netted the game-winner in the 70th minute, taking a long feed from classmate
Sierra Barr and drilling a one-time volley from 20 yards that sailed over the keeper's head. Earlier in the half,
Stephani Church converted a penalty kick to even the score at 1-1. Sophomore keeper
Katie Hatziyianis made a big save in the final 17 minutes to preserve the win.Â
The Golden Griffs (1-1-1) have already played three games and have scored 17 goals, albeit 16 of those came in a record-setting 16-1 win over first-year program Hampton (Va.) to begin the season. Canisius is coming off a 1-1 home draw against St. Bonaventure on Tuesday — the same Bonnies team that BU edged four days earlier. The team's other result was a 3-0 loss at Old Dominion. Canisius is coming off a 6-14 season (5-5 MAAC) that ended in the first round of the MAAC playoffs. The 2015 edition under first-year head coach Todd Clark was picked to finish eighth (out of 11) in the preseason poll.
Binghamton is 4-1 all-time against the Griffs, including a 2-0 victory last September in Buffalo.
After Friday's game, BU welcomes Lehigh to the Complex for a 1 p.m. kickoff on Sunday.
