Live VideoLive StatsVESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer welcomes in-state foe Niagara to the Bearcats Sports Complex when the teams square off at 5 p.m. on Friday. The game between a pair of 1-1-1 teams is the final of four straight at home to start the season for BU, which then faces a tough stretch of seven consecutive road games.
Binghamton (1-1-1) is looking to put its last result in the rear view mirror. On Sunday, Lehigh scored twice in the first 12:02 and pinned a 4-0 loss on BU.
The Purple Eagles (1-1-1) are coming off a 1-0 win at Robert Morris on Sunday. In that game, Niagara tallied the game-winner in the 32nd minute and keeper Claire Feiertag preserved the margin by stopping a penalty kick in the 43rd minute. Senior forward and preseason all-conference selection Haillie Price scored the goal off a feed from junior midfielder Noami Giovino. Before that Niagara opened the season with a 2-0 loss to Michigan State and then tied Akron 0-0 — both at home. The team was picked to finish fourth (out of 11) in the MAAC Preseason Poll. Niagara returns 13 letterwinners from last season's team that went 11-2-6 and advanced to the MAAC semifinals.Â
The Bearcats lead the all-time series with Niagara, 5-3. The Purple Eagles took last year's encounter, however, 2-1, in Niagara Falls. Binghamton had won three straight in the series prior to last season. Â
