Volleyball looks to extend win streak at Hartford

Bearcats and Hawks meet at 1 p.m. on Sunday as BU aims for fourth straight win

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton volleyball (11-11, 5-3 America East) looks to keep its momentum going when it faces Hartford (5-16, 2-6 AE) at 1 p..m. Sunday in West Hartford. The Bearcats have won three matches in a row - two in straight sets - and can complete a weekend road sweep with a victory.

On Friday, freshman hitter Lauren Kornmann continued her hot hand with 12 kills and Binghamton rolled to a 3-0 sweep over host UMass Lowell. The Bearcats rallied to take the opening set, 26-24, and then built sizeable leads in each of the last two sets, closing out the victory with 25-15, 25-14 scores.

Kornmann, the reigning America East Player of the Week, hit .296 for the match and was aided up front by sophomore hitter Gaby Alicea, who totaled nine kills, three blocks and two aces. Each player accounted for 12.5 points. Sophomore hitter Erin Shultz produced eight kills and eight digs, junior setter Sarah Ngo handed out 34 assists and nine digs and senior libero Bailey Walker sprawled out for 18 digs with a pair of aces.

Hartford is coming off a 3-0 defeat at the hands of first-place Albany on Friday. The Hawks were saddled with 25 errors and hit just .065 against the Danes. The team's two conference wins have come against Stony Brook (3-1) and UMass Lowell (3-2). Hartford also pushed UMBC to a fifth game

Binghamton holds a 22-6 cushion in the all-time series against the Hawks. Hartford, however, had split the previous six matches heading into this season, thanks to a season sweep back in 2014.

Earlier this fall, BU hit a season-high .367 (37 kills, 8 errors) en route to a 3-0 sweep of the Hawks at West Gym. In that match, BU won the opening game 25-7 and cruised. Ngo totaled 29 assists to go along with five block assists, four digs, and three aces. Junior middle Kristella Morina hit .357 on her way to 11 points, while Kornmann added 10.5 points on .500 hitting.
