VESTAL, N.Y. - Already assured of reaching the postseason for the 10th time in the last 12 years, Binghamton volleyball (12-12, 6-4 America East) hosts Stony Brook (6-18, 2-7 AE) at 7 p.m. tonight at West Gym. Before the match, BU will recognize its five seniors:Â
Kasey Muchnicki,
Allison Hovie,
Bailey Walker,
Bianca Anderson, and
Kelly Leach.
Despite seeing their four-match win streak snapped on a 3-1 loss to UMBC Friday night, the Bearcats clinched a top-four America East finish and accompanying tournament berth. With two regular season matches remaining, BU can finish anywhere from second to fourth.Â
On Friday night, sophomore hitter Gaby Alicea finished with 13 kills, five aces and two blocks. Sophomore Erin Shultz and junior middle Kristella Morina both earned 12 kills while junior setter Sarah Ngo added up 46 assists.
Currently, Binghamton is ranked second in the conference in blocks (2.03/set), first in service aces (1.60/set), and third in both overall hitting percentage (.193) and digs (14.67/set). Individually, freshman hitter Lauren Kornmann is ranked third in America East in both kills (3.20/set) and points (3.67/set). Senior libero Bailey Walker is third in digs (4.58/set), Alicea ranks first in service aces (.42/set) and Ngo is ranked fourth in assists (9.52/set). Morina is ranked third in America East in hitting percentage (.298) while senior Bianca Anderson is ranked fourth (.278). Anderson is also fourth in blocks (1.01/set).
The Seawolves were eliminated from postseason contention with their 3-0 loss at Albany on Friday. The team ranks third in the league in assists and fourth in kills. Sophomore McKyla Brooks leads the league in hitting percentage (.307) and sophomore Morgan Kath is third in assists (9.53/set).
Stony Brook is eyeing a season sweep of the Bearcats, having posted a 3-1 win on Long Island back on October 7. In that match, BU won the first set before the Seawolves rattled off three straight games, despite being outhit .254 to .229.  Stony Brook leads the all time series 28-22. The teams split two matches last season with each winning on its home court.
