WILLIAMSVILLE, N.Y. - Host Buffalo edged Binghamton (7-6, 0-1 MAC) 4-3 in the MAC opener for both teams Friday afternoon at the Miller Tennis Center. The Bulls (8-4, 1-0 MAC) grabbed the doubles point before the teams split the six singles matches. It was a rematch of the 2015 MAC championship match, which Buffalo won 4-2.
Senior
Eliott Hureau rolled to a 6-0, 6-3 win at No. 1 singles, raising his season mark to 16-8. Also winning for the Bearcats were freshmen
Ludovico Cestarollo and
Valentin Bouchet at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively. Bouchet improved to 15-7 on the season.
"We fought hard today but came up short against a good Buffalo squad," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We didn't execute well at No. 1 and 3 doubles. At No. 3, we lost four no-ad games ... if we convert some of those chances it's a totally different match. In singles, we had a great response by taking four first sets but didn't maintain that energy the whole way."
The Bearcats stay in Buffalo to face Western Michigan at 1 p.m. Saturday - also at the Miller Tennis Center.
