Men top NJIT, women fall to Vermont

NEWARK, N.J. - The Binghamton swimming & diving programs competed in their first meet of the season at NJIT on Saturday afternoon. The men topped NJIT, 164-98, and the women fell to Vermont,165-97.

Men
The men recorded seven individual first place finishes and two relay victories. Alex Brion and Ross Bernstein lead the Bearcats with two individual wins each.

Binghamton's 400 medley relay team of Zach Kaplan, Patrick Wilson, Matt DeVito and Alex Brion took first place with a time of 3:32.90 and the 200 free relay team of Travis Blank, Eric Wang, Tyler Meyers and Alex Brion.also took first place with a time of 1:28.56.

Brion continued his dominance in the free style sprint events, winning the 50 free (21.85) and the 100 free (47.83) while Bernstein recorded top finishes in the 200 butterfly (1:55.72) and the 200 IM (2:01.02).

Other first place finishers for the Bearcats include, Zach Kaplan in the 100 back (53.76), Max Willard in the 200 back (1:58.30) and Matt DeVito in the 100 butterfly (52.74).

Women
The women's team posted five first place finishes on the day. Brooke Pettis lead the Bearcats with two top finishes.

Pettis won the 200 butterfly (2:09.89) and the 100 butterfly (58.86).

Other individual first place finishers include, Kristen Pozmanter in 1000 free (10:48.16), Olivia Santos in the 100 free (54.290 and Maria Trivino in the 200 IM (2:13.23).

Both teams are back in action on October 21 when they head to Niagara Falls to take on Niagara. The women will also be competing against Siena.
