VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (2-0) hits the road for its first away game of 2017 when the Bearcats face Horizon League foe Cleveland State (1-1) at 4 p.m. on Friday. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN3Â - the first of four BU regular season games shown on the network this season.
Binghamton jumped out to its first 2-0 start in five years with a pair of 2-1 home wins last weekend. Redshirt junior forward
Kayla Saager tallied a goal and three assists in the two games. She currently ranks seventh in the nation in assists (3) and 42nd in total points (5).Â
Cleveland State split its opening two games - both on the road. Last Friday they lost to Xavier 3-2 after digging a 3-0 hole. Two days later the Vikings scored twice in the game's first 17 minutes and held on to beat Kent State 2-1.Â
Like th Bearcats, the Vikings are young, sporting 17 first- or second-year players on their roster. The team went 5-12 last season (2-7 in Horizon) but did post wins over familiar BU foes St. Bonaventure, Canisius and Niagara before struggling with the challenging Horizon League slate. The team was picked to finish ninth (of 10) in this year's preseason poll.
This is the first meeting between the two programs.Â
The Bearcats next return home to host Niagara at 7 p.m. Monday at the Sports Complex. Â
