VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (3-0) looks to keep its hot streak going when the Bearcats host in-state foe Niagara (1-1) at 7 p.m. Monday at the Sports Complex.Â
The Bearcats (3-0) have opened 2017 with three straight 2-1 victories and through three games, are unbeaten for the first time in the program's Division I tenure.
On Friday, BU shook off an early Cleveland State goal and tallied two straight to win it on the road. Sophomore forward
Ryan Reilly netted the game-winner off a long free kick from classmate
Carly Barnett in the 83rd minute to snap a 1-1 tie. It was Reilly's second game-winner of the young season. Redshirt junior forward
Kayla Saager bumped her team-high points total to seven with her second goal of the season. Senior
Katie Hatziyianis made six saves in goal.Â
The Purple Eagles (1-1) have split their opening two games, losing 2-0 at Michigan State in East Lansing before blanking St. Bonaventure 2-0 at home on Friday. That was one week after BU defeated the Bonnies by a 2-1 margin.
The team returns six starters and 19 letterwinners after a 5-10-1 campaign last fall (4-6 in MAAC). Niagara hasn't won a road game in 10 tries dating back to the 2015 season. They have been picked ninth (of 11) in the MAAC Preseason Poll.
Binghamton leads the all-time series 6-3. Last season in Niagara Falls, Pattie Loonie scored the game-winner in the 46th minute and BU held on for a 1-0 win. Niagara had won the previous two meetings (2014, 2015). Â
After Monday's game, BU stays home to face Fairfield in a game broadcast on ESPN3. Then the Bearcats will become road warriors with seven straight away games eating up essentially the entire month of September. Â
