VESTAL, N.Y. - Conference-leading Western Michigan (18-4, 5-0 Mid-American Conference) won a tightly contested doubles point and then rolled to five singles wins en route to a 6-1 defeat of Binghamton men's tennis (3-16, 0-5 MAC) Friday afternoon at the Bearcats Tennis Complex.
Junior No. 5
Inigo Saez provided BU with its lone point with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-4 win over Eric Olivarez.Â
Earlier in doubles, BU got a win at No. 1 and were within a game of clinching the point with a lead at No. 3 before the Broncos rallied to secure the first point.
"It was a great effort by our facilities crew to get the courts ready for outdoor play today and we had great crowd support in the doubles but we failed to capitalize serving at 5-4 on No. 3 doubles," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We took three first sets in singles as well, so we can be proud that we didn't go away. But we have to be that much better to push some of these matches over the finish line."
The Bearcats next host Colgate indoors at 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the Binghamton Tennis Center.Â
