VESTAL, N.Y. - In the team's final tune-up before America East play begins, Binghamton women's soccer (4-3-2) will host LIU Brooklyn (2-5-1) at 1 p.m. Sunday at the Bearcats Sports Complex. Before the game, BU will honor its three graduating seniors:
Kaycee Pickard,
Kayla Saager and
Patty Loonie. After, they will attempt to remain perfect on the home turf, where the Bearcats are 4-0 this fall.
Binghamton is coming off a 1-0 overtime win over Bryant on Thursday. The Bearcats finally broke through in the 94th minute when senior
Kayla Saager took a feed from
Ivana Pjetri and beat the keeper from eight yards. It was Saager's league-leading sixth goal of the season.
Freshman goalie
Haylee Poltorak made two big saves during regulation and earned her second solo shutout.
The Bearcats will begin defense of their 2017 America East co-regular season title next Sunday at Vermont.  Â
The Blackbirds are coming off a 2-0 loss at Yale on Thursday. LIU is splitting its goalkeeping duties with sophomore Megan Virgin and senior Aline Allmann each playing a half against Yale. A third keeper (Meghan Haley) has also seen time this fall. Senior midfielder Marian Awad leads the team with five goals and 10 points. Freshman back Meredith Hill has two goals on three shots.
The Blackbirds were picked to finish seventh (of nine) in the NEC Preseason Poll after returning nine starters and 18 letterwinners from a 3-12-2 team of a year ago. On Sept. 6, LIU lost at fellow America East member Hartford, 4-2.
The all-time series is tied 2-2-1. Binghamton won last year's meeting, 3-0, in Brooklyn, behind second-half goals from
Kayla Saager,
Patty Loonie and
Essie Bonney.Â
