Volleyball to travel to Wyoming Invitational this weekend

Bearcats to face tough competition in Laramie

LARAMIE, WY. -  The Binghamton volleyball team (0-6) will travel to Laramie, Wyoming for the University of Wyoming Invitational September 7-8. The Bearcats will play host Wyoming at 2 p.m. (EST) on Friday followed by a 7 p.m. match against Murray State. BU will close out the tournament on Saturday morning with a 12 p.m. matchup against Arizona State University.

Bearcats in search of first win
Binghamton will look to get their first win of the season this weekend at the Wyoming Invitational. After dropping three close matches at the Cleveland State Invitational, Binghamton failed to win a single set at the Maverick Classic last weekend dropping matches to Loyola (MD), Air Force and UT Arlington. At the conclusion of the tournament, sophomore libero Samantha Gioiosa was named to the all-tournament team. Gioiosa lead the Bearcats with 46 digs in the three matches.

For the season Gaby Alicea leads Binghamton will 73 kills and 57 digs. Erin Shultz follows closely behind with 61 kills and 57 digs. Freshman setters Kiara Adams and Natalie Novak split time last weekend; Adams leads BU with 133 assists on the season.

Wyoming off to a fast start
The Cowgirls (5-1) are coming off a 2-1 showing at the North Portland Marriott Invite last weekend. Wyoming opened the weekend with a clean sweep of LIU Brooklyn before falling short of a comeback in the 3-2 loss to Portland. The Cowgirls wrapped up the tournament with a 3-0 win over Montana State.

Wyoming is currently ranked 10th in the country with a .291 hitting percentage. Jackie McBride leads the team with a .400 hitting percentage for the season.

A look at Murray State
Murray State (4-2) went 2-1 at the Saluki Invitational in Southern Illinois last weekend. The Racers dropped the first match to Miami 2-1 but then swept Alabama A&M and Southern Illinois both in three sets. Senior Dacia Brown and sophomore Becca Fernandez were both named to the all-tournament team. Brown recorded 43 kills in the three matches while hitting over .200 percent in the Racers' two wins. Fernandez lead the team with 47 digs.

Arizona State returns after a strong weekend in Puerto Rico
The Sun Devils (5-1) are back in the United States after traveling to Puerto Rico for the Puerto Rico Clasico where they posted a 2-1 weekend. Arizona State kicked off the tournament with a 3-0 win over Townson following by a 301 win over Xavier. The Sun Devils dropped the final match of the tournament to Missouri 3-1. Courtney Leffel and Ivana Jeremic were named to the all-tournament team. Jeremic finished the weekend with 32 kills while Leffel contributed 43 digs. Both were named to the Sun Devil Classic all-tournament squads the prior weekend as well.

Up next for Binghamton
Binghamton will return to the north east for the Sacred Heart Hampton Inn Invitational next weekend. The Bearcats kick off the tournament with a Friday afternoon matchup against University of Rhode Island.
