Bearcats and Seawolves kick-off at 1 p.m. in battle of unbeaten teams

VESTAL, N.Y. - Binghamton women's soccer (8-2-2, 2-0-1 America East) faces another big test on Sunday when fellow unbeaten Stony Brook (8-4, 2-0 AE) comes to town. The teams square off at 1 p.m. at the Bearcats Sports Complex in a game shown on ESPN3.

The Bearcats stretched their unbeaten streak to six with a scoreless draw at Albany Thursday night. The tie kept both teams even atop the America East standings.

Sophomore keeper Haylee Poltorak posted her sixth shutout and lowered her goals against average to 0.88. She made six saves and also had several key clears with her feet. Poltorak got help in the first half from senior back Lauren Spinnato, who headed away a would-be goal from the goal line.

After a steady pace to the season thus far (games every 3+ days), after Sunday's game, BU will slow it down with just four games over the next 25 days (games every 6+ days) to end the month and the regular season.

The Seawolves have won four of their last five and posted a resounding 4-0 win over UMBC Thursday night to remain unbeaaten in league play. In that game, they scored three goals in 64 seconds early in the second half and wound up producing four goals in a 10-minute span. Junior forward Alyssa Francese scored twice and now has a league-leading eight goals, including an NCAA-best five game-winners.

Stony Brook holds a commanding 11-3-3 head-to-head lead over BU since both teams elevated to Division I. However, the teams have split the last two games with BU winning 1-0 at home in 2017 and Stony Brook posting a 4-0 home win last October. The Bearcats are 3-3-2 vs. Stony Brook in Vestal.
