WEST POINT, N.Y. - Binghamton men's tennis (4-3) battled ACC member Clemson (5-2) up and down the lineup before the Tigers posted a 4-1 win Sunday morning at Army's Lichtenberg Tennis Center. Clemson took a tight doubles point and then pulled away from a 2-1 lead with singles wins at Nos. 4 and 5 to clinch the victory.
One night after defeating the 44th-ranked doubles pair in the nation, juniors
Kushaan Nath and
Tiago Lourenco earned another eye-opening win, 6-4 over Clemson's top tandem. Nath then rolled to a 6-3, 6-4 win at No. 2 singles to improve to 5-1 this spring.
The Bearcats were a point away from being even in the remaining two singles matches when those were halted after Clemson earned its clinching fourth point.
"I'm so proud of our squad today," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "It was another big win from No. 1 doubles and then Kushaan (Nath) took a straight-set win against a tough opponent. More importantly, he is really maturing into a leader on this team and that's going to pay dividends through the season. We went toe-to-toe with an ACC foe today, which helps build confidence as we head toward MAC play and there are still lots of moments in this match that we can improve. We are excited to get back to training this week."
The Bearcats play at Cleveland State next Saturday afternoon.
