NEWARK, N.J. - Binghamton men's tennis (7-5) earned the doubles point before winning four of six singles matches to defeat NJIT (2-6) 5-2 Friday afternoon at The Naimoli Family Athletic and Recreational Facility.
Senior
Ludovico Cestarollo and sophomore
Alejandro Pena teamed for the clinching doubles win at the second spot and then each won a convincing singles match. Cestarollo was first off the court at No. 1 and Pena's straight-set win at No. 6 clinched the team victory for the Bearcats. Freshman
Dylan Friedman and senior
Inigo Saez also went 2-0 on the day with a doubles win followed by singles victories. Â
"We did well to get a win here," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "They are a very tough team in their building and we haven't had too much success here. Doubles got us off to a great start, especially at Nos. 2 and 3, where we haven't been closing well. But today we closed those two spots out about as well as you can. We're growing as a team and have a great chance tomorrow to keep that going against a tough Bryant team."
The Bearcats host Bryant at 6 p.m. at the Binghamton Tennis Center.
