VESTAL, N.Y. - Visiting Toledo (10-9, 3-1 MAC) grabbed the doubles point and took four of the six singles matches to defeat Binghamton men's tennis (8-12, 0-5 MAC), 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Lane Tennis Center.Â
Winning singles matches for the Bearcats were junior No. 2
Tiago Lourenco and sophomore No. 4
Alejandro Pena. With his straight-set win, Pena improved to a team-best 11-7 in dual matches and 2-3 in MAC play. Like Pena, Lourenco had a 6-0 set en route to his victory, which gave him nine dual wins (2-3 MAC).Â
"We had a poor start in doubles but had a great response in singles," head coach
Nick Zieziula said. "We took four first-sets and a couple in dominating fashion, and we had set points to make it five first sets. Credit to Toledo for not going away. We can take a lot from ths match on how we competed and build on that."Â
